Sporting Clube de Goa beat Salgaocar FC 2-1 in a Goa professional League match at Duler Stadium, Mapusa today.
Salgaocar started the game on an attacking note creating chances at will. Aslon, Marcus and Chika Wali came close to scoring in the opening ten minutes but poor finishing in front of the goal spoiled their chances. In the 15th minute, against the run of play, Salgaocar’s Albino did brilliantly to deny Mauvin from close range after he was set up by Rowllin.
In the 20th minute Salgaocar ex player Cajetan Fernandes scored against his ex club after he was the first to react to a Jovel cross inside the box. After Sporting took the lead, both the teams tried their best to score but the defences stood tall leaving the score 1-0 in favour of the Panjim based side going into the half time break.
After the break SFC started off brightly but couldn’t create anything substantial to trouble Sporting’s citadel. Sporting began to dominate proceedings and as the game went on, SFC began to press for the equaliser.
In the 81st minute SFC had their best chance of the match when a great delivery by Nicolau found an onrushing Milagres at the far post, whose header was well stopped by the Sporting keeper. Towards the dying minutes of the match Victorino headed home Sporting’s second . Towards the end of injury time Gilbert reduced the margin for the green brigade.
